Basic mapping of the instrument and hands. For those who are new to learning an instrument.

First we learn how to properly sit at the piano and position hands.

Second: How to find any D on the keyboard. After this is achieved, we will progress to C and E.

Third: We will learn a basic song with the 3 notes learned through repetition.

Subsequent lessons will add a new note(s) each lesson in accordance with the student’s progress and songs to accompany newly learnt material.

For students with 2+ years of learning experience

We begin lessons with a short warm-up/technique training. This is important: it acts as a warm up for the lesson, but also to help build muscle memory and technical skill.

Specific warm-ups will vary depending on the level of the student.

Following the warm-up, we will begin practicing one of the pieces/songs previously chosen by the student or assigned by myself.

Once the student demonstrates satisfactory note accuracy and rhythmic precision, we will work further on the expressive qualities of the piece in order to help the student create a unique voice and interpretation.
